Check out this amazing short documentary about Anubis BJJ head coach Mohamed “Zizo” Omar!
Held on the first anniversary of the opening of the Anubis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Headquarters location in Zamalek, the first Anubis In-House Jiu Jitsu Competition was a huge success! We had live broadcasting and reporting from CairoScene and a great showing from all of our students, both as competitors and as spectators.
A huge congratulations goes out to our very first Anubis Open Weight White Belt Champion, Hussein Shoukry. He seio nage’d and choked his way through the 32-man bracket to take home 3,000 LE and three months of free membership at Anubis BJJ. We would also like to congratulate Hussien Abdellatif, who took second place and two months of free membership, and Hussein Katatny, who took third place and one month of free membership. In addition to their successes, EVERYONE who entered fought with heart and with technical skill, and they all demonstrated the spirit of Anubis Jiu Jitsu.
The recent Cyborg seminar ended on a high note as Cyborg promoted five of our team members to Blue Belt and Anubis BJJ head instructor Mohamed “Zizo” Omar to Purple Belt. Congratulations to all our promotees for this important mark in their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journeys!
Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu don’t come often and don’t come easily, so this is a very big accomplishment for each of these six dedicated athletes, each of whom have been training for several years at the minimum.
Anubis BJJ is proud to announce our new location in Zamalek, right on the bank of the Nile next to the El Sawy Culture Wheel. Check out the beautiful new gym and a map of the location below:
This past week we were fortunate to have multiple-time IBJJF and ADCC Black Belt World Champion (in his weight class as well as the open class) Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu with us at Anubis BJJ, Cairo. Cyborg taught a competition class for the first day of training at our beautiful new facility by the El Sawy Culture Wheel in Zamalek, as well as both a No-Gi and Gi seminar over the two days that followed.
Cyborg focused on positional training, movement drills, and some awesome techniques from bottom Half Guard. He also shared with us his training mentality and the way he likes to organize and design his classes. Finally, Cyborg got in plenty of sparring with us – his pressure and movement had to be felt to be believed.
We look forward to having Cyborg back again next year, and we’ll have plenty more awesome seminars like this to come soon!

Here’s an excerpt covering some of Mohamed “Zizo” Omar’s many grappling accomplishments:
“Despite only practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for four or so years, ‘Zizo’ is a multiple-time champion at International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation tournaments, claiming titles in San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, London and Egypt. In addition, he has also found success in the world of MMA with EFC as a champion in 2011 and with the North American Grappling Association Champion in 2013. His involvement with F3 pays testament to the gym’s commitment in not only providing top-notch facilities, but also having members use said facilities under the tutelage of some for the best athletes in Egypt.”
Check out this highlight video featuring Anubis BJJ Blue Belt Mohamed Omar. He took silver at the IBJJF London Open in the Blue Belt Middleweight division. Here are some of the moments that got him to the podium:
Two of Anubis BJJ’s hardest working athletes took the stand on the podium at the recent 2016 IBJJF London Winter Open. Zizo and Omar each took Silver in their divisions, competing against tough opponents in one of Europe’s most prestigious BJJ tournaments.
